From the Town’s Innate Walkability to Its Spooky Hotspots, Here Are the Reasons People Love Living in Mill Valley.

Mill Valley is best known for its beautiful rolling hills, mountain biking, excellent schools, and numerous places to shop and dine. However, there are other reasons people love living here! Let’s explore five of them.

Walkability

Whether you’re trying to save the planet or you just enjoy walking instead of driving, Mill Valley is one of the most walkable places to live in Marin County. Mill Valley has a high 89 Walk Score, which means you can accomplish most errands on foot. The bad news is, now you have no excuse not to get out and exercise more. On the plus side, there is also an excellent biking infrastructure and a solid public transportation system.

Lots of Haunted Places

You might see the word “haunted” and run for the hills, but there are a lot of us out there who would do the opposite (and yes, we would probably die first in a horror movie). Nonetheless, there are several places rumored to be haunted in Mill Valley and surrounding Marin County.

Ghosts of America even has a whole page dedicated to rumored spectral sightings in town. Fireside Motel, which was once a speakeasy, has a long, sordid history filled with strange happenings.

Close to Everything

We’ve already mentioned Muir Woods, but seriously, Mill Valley is within short driving distance of virtually every place you could ever want to visit, whether for a day trip or just to go sightseeing. It’s right around the corner from Stinson Beach, Marin Headlands, Mt. Tamalpais, and everything the Greater Bay Area has to offer. And it manages to do so without being full of mega-malls, corporations, and general urban congestion.

Vibrant Performance Scene

Some people don’t realize that there is great music out there, even beyond what you can find on Spotify’s hottest playlist. Mill Valley is home to the intimate venue known as Sweetwater Music Hall, with deep roots in the rock, indie, and folk music genres.

Throckmorton Theatre is a delightfully cozy local theater featuring a diverse lineup of comedy and dramatic performances. Even the late, great Robin Williams would occasionally stop by for impromptu stand-up to test his newest material.

Entertaining Annual Events

Mill Valley boasts a thriving cultural scene and regularly hosts annual events. People come from all over to enjoy the Wine, Beer & Gourmet Food Tasting, Winterfest, Art Walks, Outdoor Art Club Garden Tours, and The Dipsea Race. And that’s just scratching the surface. If you ever watched Gilmore Girls and wanted to live in Stars Hollow because of all the fun events they’ve got going on, Mill Valley would undoubtedly scratch that itch. They celebrate everything here, which means you’ll always have your choice of things to do on the weekends.
